NEW SWEDEN — A Caribou man who was severely injured in an ATV crash in Aroostook County over the weekend has died.
Marvin Hedstrom, 76, died Tuesday at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to Cpl. John MacDonald of the Maine Warden Service.
MacDonald said Wednesday that Hedstrom died from the injuries he suffered in the crash, which took place just after 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, when he was southbound on his ATV on the rail bed in New Sweden.
According to the corporal, Hedstrom was just south of the Rista Road crossing, when he struck a washed out area of the trail and overcorrected. The vehicle rolled over several times before coming to rest in a small beaver flowage. Hedstrom was ejected and landed in the trail.
MacDonald said that Hedstrom was traveling by himself and was not wearing a helmet. He suffered severe head and internal injuries and was flown to EMMC for treatment.
