FARMINGTON — At their annual fundraising event, Life Enrichment Advancing People, supported by many committed local businesses and individuals, raised $7275 for citizens of west-central Maine with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“Many people have less than $100 per month to spend on certain necessities and recreation,” said LEAP’s executive director, Darryl Wood. “Much of the money raised at this tourney goes towards an item or event that an individual desires, but could not afford on their own.”

Other portions of the funds raised go towards wellness activities for supported individuals and scholarships for employees who are studying human services.

The tourney itself, held at Sandy River golf course in New Sharon, centers around a best ball scramble for the main event, but also includes many other skills challenges designed to test golf-ability and generate more giving opportunities. The scramble tourney is for bragging rights and team name inscribed on the LEAP Cup. A silent auction and potluck barbecue were also held.

The 2013 golf winners list includes first-ever co-champions for the LEAP Cup and several ties for the skills challenges.

The two teams that tied for the LEAP Cup at 11 under par were the J. Duley team consisting of Steve West, Dave Duley, Mark Sears and Dave McLaughlin, and the Pine Tree Cellular team consisting of Glen Pound, Tim Merwin, Marc Girard and Steve Woods.

Other winners were: longest drive men, Kory Coolidge; longest drive women, Debra Peters; closest to the hole, Dave Duley; Iron Accuracy Challenge aka hit the moose, Bill Tanner; chipping, Darryl Wood Sr., and putting, Josh Somerville.
