The sixth annual Colin J. Richard Golf Tournament for Franklin County Special Olympics was held Sept. 28 at the Maple Lane Golf Course when 80 golfers played scramble-style golf. A pig roasted by Gene Weed, grandfather of Colin Richard, was ready for the golfers after play. Prizes were awarded the top three teams and two closest-to-the-pin winners. There were several raffle winners and a 50/50. “This annual event is a major fundraiser for the Jay AMVETS Special Olympics Committee,” said Co-Chairman Gary Desjardins. Barbie Weed-Richard, right, mother of the late Colin J. Richard, attended the presentation of the check for just over $3,800 by Desjardins, center, to Ryan Souther, left, Special Olympics Committee treasurer. Funds will benefit Franklin County Olympians.
