HARRISON — The Harrison Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up to offer residents of all ages more fun-filled healthy activities and programs, Director Paula Holt said.

After the youth soccer playoffs Nov. 3 for grades five and six, youth basketball will start for girls and boys in grades one through six. Registration is now open by stopping by the town office or downloading the form on the website www.harrisonmaine.org, Holt said. Those who wish to fill out the form online should click on recreation and follow the link to youth athletics.

Practices will be held during the week in the Harrison school gym and games will be played Saturdays in SAD 17. Volunteer coaches, assistants and referees are needed to keep the youth sports programs going, Holt said.

Teens and adults can also enjoy some exercise in the gym. Coed adult basketball is offered Mondays from 6 to 7:45 p.m. and Teen Sports Night is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Teens can choose from basketball, volleyball, floor hockey and dodge ball. The evening programs will follow the  school district calendar so when school is closed due to snow days, holidays or staff development days, the gym will be closed.

Harrison girls and boys in grades prekindergarten through grade six should get their costume ready for the annual Halloween Festival from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at the Fire Station.

Back by popular demand is DJ Mitchell Music and More with his tunes and smoke and light show. The Dalmatian Fire Dog Bounce House will also return, along with the many games, arts and crafts table, costume parade, prizes and the healthy refreshment table.

The next Senior Social and Luncheon is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, in the Town Office community room. There will be word games, bingo, prizes, guess jar and a special fall activity. The meal features homemade Thanksgiving shepherd’s pie with gravy, rolls, homemade apple crisp with vanilla ice cream, apple juice, coffee, tea or hot chocolate. The free luncheon is sponsored by the Harrison Lions Club.
