WATERBORO — School officials say rumors of violence have prompted them to postpone a football game between Massabesic High School and Sanford High School in Maine.

Massabesic High School principal Christian Elkington tells WMTW-TV that the game is being moved from Friday night to 1 p.m. Saturday in Sanford.

Sanford is Massabesic’s biggest rival and Elkington says students appear to have gotten carried away with trash talk on social media.

He said students were informed of the postponement during a school assembly on Friday. Extra security will be on hand for Saturday’s game.
