MEXICO — A local woman will hold her first fall vendor fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Region 9 School of Applied Technology.

Crystal Harting said she came up with the idea after she realized that there was nothing in the area for vendors.

“I found that there were vendor fairs in Wilton, Jay, Livermore and other places, but nothing in this area,” she said. “I’ve been talking with some of the vendors who were involved with the local farmers’ markets, and they said there wasn’t really anything after October, so I thought this would be a good way for small businesses and locals to showcase their products.”

As of Thursday afternoon, Harting said she had 13 vendors, including Roy’s Family Farm of Rumford, offering homemade soaps and lotions; the Cancer Crusader’s Relay for Life group in Rumford, who will be selling crafts and baked goods to raise money for cancer patient care and research; and local crafters offering their art.

“It’ll sort of be a smorgasbord of different vendors offering things,” Harting said. “At first, I just wanted to get small businesses and locals, but a lot of different groups, like Tupperware, Avon, Mary K, Origami Owl and Pampered Chef, agreed to join as well. All in all, there’ll be a wide variety of things to look at.”

Harting said she has asked each vendor to exhibit door prizes on their tables.

“Anybody who comes to the fair can sign up to win their prizes,” she said.

Harting said she hopes to host a fall vendor fair in the future.

“It all depends on how well this first one goes,” she said. “It’s my first time doing it, but it came together pretty well. It’s kind of been my goal to get something like this going, so I hope to keep doing it after this one is done.”
