1922 – 2013

AUBURN — Ernestine (Robbins) Menkevich, 91, formerly of Lisbon, passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 29, at the Clover Health Care Center, following a long illness.

She was born in Stratford, Quebec, on April 9, 1922, a daughter of the late Odonias and Alice (Pariseau) Blais. She grew up in the Stratford area and attended local schools. When she was 16 years old, she moved to Maine.

In June 1943, Ernestine married her first husband, Milton Robbins, and they started a family together. During that time, she worked for three years at the Bonafide Mill and later worked for the Farnsworth Mill in Lisbon Center for 13 years. She also worked as a waitress for Willie’s Restaurant in Lisbon for 15 years. After that, she worked at the Mill Fabric Store, until her retirement in 1985.

She was a member of Horizons 55 in Lewiston, the Holy Cross Senior Citizens and the Lewiston Senior Citizens. Ernestine will always be remembered for her love of spending quality time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her two sons, Richard Robbins and his wife, Barbara, of Maynard, Mass., and Daniel Robbins and his wife, Denise, of Auburn. She also leaves behind three sisters, Yvette Emmons of Woonsocket, R.I., Therese Beliveau of Bromptonville, Quebec, and Rachel Richard of Lisbon; as well as five grandchildren, Scott Robbins and his family of Milton, Mass., Thomas Phelan and his family of Lake Mary, Fla., Bradford Robbins and his family of Maynard, Mass., Leslie Longo and her family of Walpole, Mass., and Jeff Phelan and his family of Kennebunk; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Milton Robbins, in 1961; her second husband, Joseph Menkevich, in 1978; a daughter, Connie Phelan; two brothers, Robert and Renaud Blais; a sister, Pauline Stevens; and two brothers-in-law, Onios Beliveau and Roland Richard.
