FARMINGTON — A Farmington company was awarded the contract to survey about 1.8 miles of the East Madrid Road in Madrid Township.

Franklin County commissioners voted Tuesday to accept a bid of $4,800 from ACME Land Survey LLC to survey the portion of the road. If expert testimony is necessary, it will be billed separately at a cost of $75 an hour, Commission Chairman Clyde Barker said.

The company was the only one to submit a bid on the project.

The county has $10,000 in a perambulation reserve account, according to the most recent audit, Deputy Treasurer/Deputy Clerk Vickie Brailey said following the meeting.

Commissioners had talked at an October meeting about using some of it for the survey.

The panel decided to do the survey in an attempt to settle an ongoing dispute with landowner Rufus Griscom on the width of the county road.

Griscom believes the county is infringing on his property rights when it maintains the road.

The dirt road will be surveyed from the intersection of Potato Hill Road and Barnjum Road. The county had a survey done on the other portion of the road in 2009.
