FARMINGTON — United Way of the Tri-Valley Area feeds the hungry, heats homes and helps kids through the Great Charity Auction: Maine Living on Saturday, Nov. 16.

The United Way of the Tri-Valley Area is hosting the Great Charity Auction just in time for early holiday shopping. The auction will be held at the North Dining Hall at University of Maine Farmington.

The festivities will begin with an early bird social, silent auction and live auction preview from 5 to 6 p.m. with entertainment and hors d’oeuvres. A live auction will begin at 6 p.m. with MC Dennis O’Neil and auctioneer Adrian Harris.

The Maine living theme of this year’s auction will be represented by many of the items. These include dining and lodging packages, maple syrup and honey gift baskets, furnace cleanings, sports memorabilia, garden items, massages, as well as fine art and antiques. Many area businesses have provided gift certificates.

The theme is also reflected in many of the food choices served during the social hour, including a potato bar with a variety of toppings and homemade mini pies.

Proceeds from the auction support the community-based programs supported by the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area. These include mental health and transportation services, food pantries, domestic violence prevention programs and emergency fuel assistance.

The auction is free and open to the public. For more information or to donate items, contact the United Way at 778-5048. Pre-bid sheets are also available for those who are unable to attend. These are available at uwtva.org or at the United Way office.
