FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program welcomes New York Times bestselling author Melissa Coleman as the next author in its celebrated Visiting Writers Series. Coleman will read from her work at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in The Landing in the UMF Olsen Student Center. The reading is free and open to the public and will be followed by a signing by the author.

An American author and columnist, Coleman was born in Brooksville, Maine, to parents committed to the “back-to-the-land movement” of the ’60s and ’70s. Her book, “This Life is in Your Hands: One Dream, Sixty Acres, and a Family’s Heartbreak,” uncovers the truth of a family tragedy that shaped her early years.

Her other works include her Bright-Minded Home blog and its companion column in Maine Home + Design magazine that offers “an investigation into the art of creating healthy, beautiful and energy efficient homes.” Coleman also organizes the Super Famous Writers Series at The Telling Room, a Portland writing center for children and young adults.

Coleman lives in Freeport with her husband and twin daughters.
