MANCHESTER — Maine State Police and the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office are investigating skeletal remains, likely male, found off Puddledock Road on Saturday morning.
A hunter stumbled upon the remains, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. He was not sure what time they were found.
The remains will be taken to the office of the state medical examiner.
Meanwhile, police are searching missing persons reports in an attempt to quickly identify the deceased person.
McCausland said he was not aware of any missing people in the Augusta area.
No further information was immediately available.
