CHESTERVILLE — Police say a 17-year-old girl hid in a bedroom Monday morning when a man forced his way into the house on Vienna Road.
The girl was home alone when a man came to the door and knocked. When no one answered, he forced open the door, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said Tuesday. When the burglar saw the girl in her room, he fled, the sheriff said.
She reported seeing a maroon Chevrolet Lumina leaving the scene with two men in it, which led police to identify two suspects, Nichols said.
He credited the girl, other witnesses and the quick actions of dispatchers for helping to identify the suspects.
Nothing was stolen in the 9:16 a.m. incident.
The men are known to frequent the Augusta area, Nichols said.
He said the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police are assisting deputies in finding the suspects.
