NORWAY — A statewide campaign, Click for Babies, is underway to help prevent infant abuse and raise awareness of the Period of Purple Crying, a normal period in an infant’s development when they cry more than any other time and are often not able to be soothed.

Knitters and crocheters all over Maine have been making hats for the Click for Babies campaign. On Nov. 4, Henry Paul was born and was the recipient of the first purple hat at Stephens Memorial Hospital. Henry was welcomed by his proud parents, Meredith and Glen of Newry.

Purple hats will be given to all babies born in the month of November at Stephens Memorial Hospital’s Family Birthplace. Currently a Period of Purple Crying DVD is given to all parents of babies born in The Family Birthplace and nursing staff review normal crying patterns with parents before they leave the hospital.
