FARMINGTON — The Board of Selectmen approved hiring Stephen Millett as the town’s new wastewater superintendent Tuesday.
Millett, of North Jay, will start the job Nov. 18 and be paid $53,000 annually.
He works for Ohio-based Ashland Chemical, Town Manager Richard Davis told the board.
After the meeting, Millett said he has worked at the NewPage mill in Rumford for nine years, dealing with special chemicals needed for papermaking.
He has more than 20 years of experience in wastewater management, including 15 years working on wastewater disposal at the Wilton Tannery, he said.
He holds a grade 5 biological license and is familiar with Department of Environmental Protection regulations, he said.
The board agreed that Millett has the skill and experience for the job.
In August, the town hired a wastewater superintendent to replace retiring Steve Moore, who planned to continue working for the department part time.
Davis said the superintendent hired in August no longer works for the town.
