VASSALBORO — Maine State Police and the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office have identified the man who was found dead Friday morning on property adjacent to the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.

Investigators consider the death suspicious, according to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Stephen McCausland.

The body of Thomas Namer, 69, of Waterville was found about 7 a.m. outside an abandoned mobile home, McCausland said.

An autopsy was performed Friday afternoon at the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta. Results were not immediately available.

Investigators have interviewed a number of people in an attempt to retrace Namer’s footsteps Thursday night, McCausland said. Detectives gathered evidence from the crime scene Friday and some of that evidence will be analyzed at the state police crime lab.

During the course of Friday’s investigation, a Vassalboro man was taken into custody for a probation violation unrelated to the death, McCausland said.

Courtney Shea, 30, lives next door to where the body was found and as he was being interviewed, detectives determined he had violated probation conditions for a past robbery conviction, McCausland said.

Shea was arrested on the probation violation charge and taken to the Kennebec County Jail.

The investigation into Namer’s death will continue through the weekend, McCausland said.
