NEW GLOUCESTER — Sixty-four people from 22 states and four countries have applied for the town manager position.

“It’s a great response,” selectmen Chairman Steve Libby said.

Maine Municipal Association launched the search Oct. 16 on behalf of selectmen at at cost of $4,900.

Libby said last week that the next step is a meeting with MMA to decide who will be interviewed. A meeting is tentatively set for Dec. 4.

Town Manager Sumner Field III, who has served the town the past five years, plans to retire Jan. 2.
