Laura Withers, M.D., a general and trauma surgeon, has been appointed to the Central Maine Medical Center medical staff. She is practicing with Central Maine Surgical Associates in Lewiston and is a member of the CMMC trauma team.
Before joining the greater Lewiston-Auburn medical community, she worked as a traveling surgeon at hospitals in Florida, Maine, Michigan, New Mexico, New York and Washington. She has volunteered her surgical skills at clinics in Haiti, Mexico, Niger, Democratic Republic of Congo and Papua New Guinea.
A graduate of Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., Withers earned her medical degree at New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y.
She served a surgical residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center Department in New York City. Withers completed fellowship training in trauma surgery and surgical critical care at Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, Fla.
She is certified in general surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery. She is also certified in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support and advanced trauma life support.
She has co-authored scholarly articles published in various professional journals and has made presentations at a number of emergency care conclaves.
