AUGUSTA — A local man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a sex crime that apparently took place in Colorado, police said.
Shane Pelletier, 23, was taken into custody at his Augusta apartment around 11:30 a.m., Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said.
Pelletier faces a charge of sexual exploitation of a minor via telecommunications, McCausland said. He was charged with being a fugitive from justice and brought to Kennebec County Jail.
Pelletier now faces extradition proceedings from Colorado authorities to face charges in that state, McCausland said.
Police in Fort Collins allege that Pelletier coaxed a 14-year-old girl to send him nude photos of her in a chat room, according to McCausland.
Pelletier remained at the jail Wednesday afternoon.
