FARMINGTON — The United Way of the Tri-Valley Area coordinated a unique fun-raiser in October, the inaugural Cut-A-Thon.

Area salons participated in this event which featured stylists serving refreshments in a festive atmosphere and donating their time to provide $15 hair cuts.

United Way Community Partners “adopted” salons for the afternoon, greeting participants and sharing what they do in the community to improve people’s lives.

The event raised $650. The Cut-A-Thon was organized by United Way supporter Kathy Gregory, who is a member of the 2013-14 United Way of the Tri-Valley Area Campaign Cabinet and the patient services coordinator for Community Dental.

Participating salons were Hair Razor, Snipper’s, Salon West and Medulla. Friendly competition was encouraged and as a result, Hair Razor won the spirit award and raised the most money (stylists sought donations even before the event was held), and Medulla provided the most hair cuts. A Community Partner Spirit Award was also given to SeniorsPlus for the excitement and engagement of staff at the event.
