1993 – 2013

HOPE — Cameron Chamberlain Dow, 20, of Grassow Loop in Hope, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, Dec. 1.

Cameron was born in Portland on Aug. 31, 1993, the son of John Thomas Dow and Tannetta Adriana Fentener van Vlissingen. He graduated from Kents Hill School in 2012 and was a sophomore at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I.

Cameron was a kind and loving son, with a great sense of humor and an awesome devotion to his family. To his mother, he was loving, respectful and fiercely protective; to his father and stepfather, he was the finest of young men, whose true strength was his capacity to care and to love; to his brother and sister, he was the epitome of an older brother, who was ferociously protective, yet wonderfully kind and compassionate; to his friends, Cameron was both loyal and supportive. His energy was incredible, his humor infectious and his love for his family was all-encompassing.

Cameron was the finest of young men, who made his family extremely proud. He was a man of strong morals, sound values and an often unshakable inner compass, which helped Cameron navigate his way through all the challenges and pitfalls facing young men. He respected his elders and embraced life with boundless enthusiasm and energy. Cameron lived on two continents, attended numerous schools, engaged in many sports and was an avid hunter.

Cameron was an accomplished athlete, playing on the varsity basketball, lacrosse and football teams at Kents Hill. Cam won the MIP Award in boys varsity lacrosse in 2010, and was named All-Evergreen Honorable Mention in football the following years. He was most passionate, however, about basketball, winning the Coaches’ Award his senior year.

Cameron is survived by his mother and stepfather, Tannetta and Mike, of Hope; his father, John, of Camden; his sister, Tessa, of Hope; his brother, Luka, of Hope; two stepbrothers, Gregg and Jason of South Africa; his grandmothers, Ank of the Netherlands and Louise of Pittsfield; his aunts and uncles, Alicia and Melle of the Netherlands, Mike and Katherine of Switzerland, Bill and Jill of Atlanta, Ga., and David and Jennifer of Florida; and all of his cousins. He will also be sorely missed by his beloved dog, Sammy.
