FRYEBURG — A Fryeburg man was listed in critical condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland on Tuesday after sustaining life-threatening injuries in a single-vehicle accident Monday night.
Stanley Vladyka, 42, was transported to MMC by life-flight after his condition was downgraded by staff at Bridgton Hospital late Monday night, according to Detective Sgt. Joshua Potvin of the Fryeburg Police Department.
Vladyka was operating 1996 GMC pick-up truck on West Fryeburg Road at approximately 9 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, Potvin said.
The pick-up crossed the center lane and went into the roadside ditch, rolling into a CMP pole and crushing the truck’s cab, trapping Vladyka inside.
A stretch of West Fryeburg Road was closed for more than an hour while crews from local fire and rescue departments extricated Vladyka from the vehicle, Potvin said. Vladyka’s injuries were initially believed to be non life-threatening and he was transported to Bridgton Hospital.
A blood sample was collected from Vlaydka and the results are pending, but Potvin said both alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash.
