More than 100,000 customers of the state’s major utilities remain without power Tuesday following a two-day ice storm that weighed down power lines and tree limbs, and it could be Friday before some people are back online.
As of 9:19 a.m., Central Maine Power Co. was reporting more than 86,000 outages with the hardest hit counties being Kennebec (38,251), Waldo (17,673), Androscoggin (9,546), Lincoln (6,767) and Hancock (5,024).
Those figures represent more than half of its customers in Kennebec and Waldo counties. The towns of Litchfield, Pittston, Readfield, Isleboro and Liberty were almost entirely blacked out.
Lewiston reported nearly 2,300 customers were without power. Lisbon, Sabattus, Wales and Leeds were also hit hard by power outages.
As of 9:40 a.m., Bangor Hydro Electric said it had 29,088 customers without juice. It gave an estimated restoration time for all by 11:59 p.m. on Friday.
