HEBRON — Hebron Academy Arts Department Chair Jeanine Eschenbach announced that 10 students earned places in music ensembles at the Maine Music Educators Association District II Music Festival.

More than 1,200 students in District II, which covers public and private schools from Portland, Yarmouth and Windham to Bethel, Turner and Lewiston/Auburn, auditioned in October at a local school. The MMEA Festival convenes the most talented young instrumentalists and vocalists in the state.

“Our students have shown incredible discipline and dedication to their craft. I’m proud of their desire to improve and push themselves to reach this level of performance,” said Mr. John Lawson, who leads Hebron’s instrumental ensembles and has worked tirelessly to prepare student performers for the big stage. “Being selected for these festivals is a testament to their efforts, and I’m confident they will take advantage of the opportunity to represent themselves and Hebron Academy on stage.”

Eighth graders Hadwin Belcher (violin) and Bradley Sperl (cello) will play with the Middle School Orchestra. The High School Orchestra will include Darby Tuttle ’16 and Lizzy Wilson ’15 on violin, Jon Tuttle ’15 and Evan Kalish ‘14 on double bass, Boel Olsson ’15 on cello and Peter Miller ’14 on viola. Jon Tuttle ’15 was also selected to play bass in the Jazz Choir as part of the All-State Jazz Festival, held the first weekend in January in Bangor.

On the vocal side, eighth-grader Bradley Sperl will sing with the Middle School Chorus and upper schoolers Dylan Malia ’14 and Olivia Grimmer ’15 will participate in the Upper School Chorus.

The District II Instrumental Festival will be held on Jan. 24 and 25 at Leavitt Area High School in Turner. The Choral Festival will be at Portland High School on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 in Portland.
