AUGUSTA — Maine Gov. Paul LePage has signed a second emergency proclamation to allow heating fuel delivery truck drivers to stay on roads for extra hours during bitter cold weather this week.
LePage said Tuesday that he signed the extension because recent snow and ice have hampered delivery heating fuel deliveries that are becoming critical with the arrival of colder temperatures.
The National Weather Service says temperatures will be dropping below zero or to single digits across the state through Sunday.
The governor’s proclamation waives U.S. Department of Transportation rules and extends the hours of service for heating fuel transport and delivery trucks in Maine for two weeks.
