LIVERMORE — In his 10th year in the restaurant business, Bob Doyon believes his newest venture is the best one yet.

The Livermore Plaza is now home to Slices Pizzeria, a neighborhood pizza joint, as he calls it, that offers not only authentic New York style, thin-crusted pizza, but also a variety of calzones, hot subs, specialty sandwiches, pasta, homemade lasagna, and salads.

“I grew up in the business,” said Doyon. “I like dealing with people and the public.”

His uncle, Al Doyon, was once the owner of The Steer House in Winthrop, among other restaurants.

“He inspired me to get into the restaurant business when I was a cop,” Doyon said.

Among the specialty sandwiches is one called Bob’s Primanti.

Large slices of homemade Italian bread are topped with honey mustard, capicola ham, Provolone cheese, homemade cole slaw, French fries and tomatoes. Another large slice of Italian bread caps each sandwich, then they are grilled to a golden brown, he said.

“I sell a lot of them. Word goes out quickly,” he said.

His specialty pizzas include The Big Livermore, The Livermore Garden, and The Livermore Vegetarian.

The Big Livermore, the house pizza, comes with red sauce, bacon, garlic, ham, green peppers, kielbasa, mushrooms, pepperoni, sausage, diced red onion, tomatoes, blended cheeses and a touch of feta and oregano.

“These are extremely popular,” he said.

Prior to opening Slices Pizzeria on Route 4, Doyon and his wife, Rhonda, owned Rhonda’s Grill and Sports Bar in Leeds for a few years before selling. They then opened a new pizzeria in Monmouth for a few years now known as T.J.’s Place.

He and his family plan to hold onto Slices Pizzeria for many years into the future.

Doyon and Rhonda, their son, Robbie, one other full-time and three part-time employees operate the business.

The light and airy beige and pale green restaurant now has a full bar complete with beers and wines. Spirits are expected to join the offerings later this month.

Coming this spring will be special twice-monthly by-reservation-only gourmet pizza nights when very special, high-end pizzas will be served.

Doyon and his crew serve pizza and the many other Italian dishes in the restaurant, or to take out.

Although he is no longer a Monmouth Police Department officer, Doyon continues his work as owner of Doyon Investigating Agency as a private investigator specializing in insurance fraud and computer forensics, and his wife is a professional insurance agent for National Housing Insurance Group.

Son Robbie recently left the Navy. When he isn’t helping out his parents, he is a movie maker and actor.

Even daughter Olivia, age 7, helps put together some very creative pizzas, said Doyon.

The pizzeria is open Tuesdays through Thursdays, and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. They are closed on Mondays.

During the drive-through hours of 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. through 6:30 p.m., pizza may be purchased by the slice as well as by the pie.

“We’ve put a lot into this. The end result is watching the smile on people’s faces.” he said.
