LEWISTON — Trinity Church, long known for providing creative programs that benefit the city, has announced the next in its series of concerts to being held monthly every second Saturday.

Featured artist on Saturday, Jan. 11, will be Two Bar Break. The group is comprised of three well-known, veteran musicians: Marty Lang on guitar and vocals, Alden Clark on piano and Dan “Redd” Girouard on drums.

In addition to playing with Two Bar Break, Lang is a 20-plus-year member of the popular Moon Dawgs and Loose Connection. In the 1970s, starting at 17, he played for five years with the Country Squires. The 1981 graduate of the University of Maine at Augusta, Land also played with Az Iz.

Clark, who was a member of Az Iz, was born in Waterville and has worked with many well-known bands and musicians playing ragtime country, bluegrass and blues. He was a member of The Imposters and played with Jud Strunk, opening for such acts as Andy Williams, “Guitar” Shorty, and “Little Milton.”

Girouard has played with the Mark Miller Blues Band, Arlo West, Glen Livet Band and many others. He began his music career in the 1960s playing for bands such as the Vibrations, Universal Underpass, and the Soul Brothers.

Opening the evening will be singer-songwriter and poet Gregory McKillop. He has been writing stories in different formats since he was very young. He received a bachelor of science degree as an English teacher from Worcester State, but most of the best lessons he learned while sleeping on the couches of various poets. Since discovering slam poetry, he has taken performance more seriously and it has become a major part of his regular set.

Concerts begin at 7 p.m.; doors open at 6:30 p.m. Snacks and beverages will be offered at intermission. A suggested $10 donation toward the artists and the many neighborhood ministries of Trinity Church may be made at the door. Trinity is at 247 Bates St., corner of Spruce St. next to Kennedy Park.

Spots are available for opening acts by local singer-songwriters, poets, storytellers and other artists. Submit an application at www.theroomtrinity.wordpress.com.
