RUMFORD — The Rumford Snowshoe Club will host its annual races at noon Sunday, Jan. 19, at Mountain Valley Middle School, club President Stephen Gallant said.

Gallant, who has held the office for 44 years, said the club is 85 years old and, “as far as I know, the races have been going on for longer than that.”

The event will feature 50-, 100-, 200- and 400-meter races, with several age groups participating in each.

Gallant said racers do not need to be club members to participate.

“This is an event open to the public,” he said. “We have a lot of club members who race, but we also get a lot of nonmember residents who race too. We invite any and all people to try out.”

There is a $3 registration fee and proceeds will go toward paying for the medals and trophies being awarded to winners in each category.

To register, visit the Snowshoe Club at 227 Waldo St. For more information, call Gallant at 369-9703.
