1962 – 2014

LANG TOWNSHIP — Craig “Donut” Raymond, 52, of Lang Township, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 8, one day after celebrating his 52nd birthday.

He was born Jan. 7, 1962, a son of Charles and Carolyn (Knight) Raymond. He was very proud of having earned his GED the same day as his mother. On June 20, 1981, he married Joanne Lecours.

Craig was a man who helped everyone and there was no one who crossed his path who didn’t consider him a friend. He was a jack-of-all-trades and known as the “MacGyver” of Rangeley. He enjoyed carpentry, going out to eat with friends and family, but he mostly enjoyed people. One of his favorite pastimes was serving as the auctioneer at the Dolbier family reunion. He was a prankster and a jokester but always did it in fun. He loved sitting by the campfire while his grandchildren cooked him marshmallows. Craig looked big and tough, but he melted like the marshmallows when he was with his grandchildren.

He was an active member of the Rangeley Fire Department for 18 years serving as captain for Company No. 1 for numerous years. He started out as a machine operator for Forster Manufacturing in Stratton and Strong and then drove logging trucks D.C. Morton and M & H Logging. For numerous years he was the maintenance handyman for the Rangeley Inn before working as a carpenter for A-One Builders and jovial bouncer at People’s Choice. After moving his family to Poland,  he worked for Perry Transport as a heavy equipment operator before building his home in Langtown and becoming a self-employed contractor in addition to being the caretaker of Rangeley Manor and the roads in Langtown.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Joanne of Langtown; his children, Angela Erma Raymond of Langtown, Jennifer Lynn Raymond of Gray, John Lloyd Raymond of Langtown, and Cindle Jo Raymond of Buckfield; his father, Charles of Rangeley; brothers, Clifford “Turtle” Raymond and his wife, Patricia, of Gorham, Christian “Smokey” Raymond and his wife, Sheila, of Rangeley and Carl “Joe” Raymond of Rangeley; sister, Cathy White and her husband, Norman, of Rangeley; grandchildren, Travis, Tilyana, Jazmine, Alexander, Isaiah, Jadaiah, Jason, Braydon, Bert, Alyana and Jeremiah; and his “second” mother, Carole Sherwood of Rangeley.

He was predeceased by his grandmother, Minnie Nile; mother, Carolyn “Lynne” Raymond and her twin sister, Donut’s aunt, Carole “Gram” Haley; and a brother, Wesley.

Condolences and tributes may be shared on his memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com.
