AUGUSTA (AP) — The Maine Department of Transportation has announced a $2 billion, three-year plan to improve roads, bridges, airports and other key infrastructure across the state.
The plan announced Tuesday will use $100 million in state transportation bonds approved last November by voters and federal highway funds to pay for more than 1,600 projects.
The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1kBHsmy) reported that 425 projects are scheduled this year at a cost of $455 million.
One of the most expensive projects is the $80 million replacement of the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge in Kittery, an amount that must be matched by New Hampshire.
Others include $14 million to reconstruct a 4.8-mile-long stretch of Route 3 in Bar Harbor, and a $14 million rehabilitation of the western approach to the Route 1 Viaduct in Bath.
