Add another honor to the growing list for Telstar cross country runner Josef Holt-Andrews.
The senior was named Gatorade’s Maine Cross Country Boys Runner of the Year on Thursday. The honor is presented annually to one runner from each state “based on athletic production and impact in the 2013 season.”
“Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership,” Gatorade said in a press release.
Holt-Andrews took All-American honors with a 10th-place finish at the national Foot Locker Cross Country Championships in 15:30. He preceded that with a fifth-place finish at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional Championships (15:36.8) and a third-place finish at the New England Championships (15:12.90).
The 6-foot-1 Bethel student also earned his first Class C state title in November, capping off a season that also included regional, Mountain Valley Conference and Festival of Champions titles.
An A-minus student, Holt-Andrews has donated his time as a peer tutor and youth running instructor.
Greely’s Kirstin Sandreuter was named Maine Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year.
