Gerrymandering is the process of dividing up and redrawing voting districts to give a political party advantage. Gerrymandering is a problem because it affects everyone, by race, economic status, minority status or religion.
Gerrymandering probably doesn’t have as much effect on wealthy people because they could just pay off state legislators to gain more advantages.
It is difficult for the average person to know how the districts are being drawn and divided up, but I think that everybody should know why their voting district was drawn the way it was.
I don’t know who my state representative is because, after an election, I never see these people again. There is a lack of public awareness.
To stop gerrymandering, other countries have made independent redistributing commissions responsible for making new electoral districts.
