AUGUSTA (AP) — A bill that aims to make solar power a priority for Maine is among the legislation a coalition of environmental and public health groups is pushing this session.

The Environmental Priorities Coalition unveiled their legislative agenda last week. The coalition is made up of 28 organizations like the Maine Conservation Alliance and the Maine Center for Economic Policy.

The bill introduced by Democratic Sen. Eloise Vitelli would establish state solar energy goals in Maine and encourage solar energy development.

Another bill the coalition is pushing would have the state study ocean acidification, which the group says is caused by carbon pollution.

The coalition also wants the state to reject new mining rules, which they say will threaten water quality.
