LEWISTON — Lewiston Adult Education is offering numerous career-readiness programs this winter. From medical professions to skilled trades, LAE has classes and certificate programs to help area residents stand out in a competitive job market.

LAE will be offering more than a dozen computer courses at a variety of levels, from the beginner-level Business Computing and Computer Literacy, up through feature programs like MS Excel, QuickBooks and PowerPoint, and finally up to the more technical courses in the Computer & Information Technology Science program.

The Clerical Certificate will also be available through LAE. The certificate develops skills that will make graduates competitive candidates for many kinds of office positions. The coursework develops the computer, communication and accounting skills needed to be successful in a professional environment.

The Accounting Certificate will expand the skills acquired in the Clerical Certificate program to include those essential in any accounting department. Accounting Assistant students will learn to use Quickbooks and MS Excel to their best advantage and gain experience doing more in-depth accounting.

Those interested in a medical career may benefit from the Medical Office Certificate. The courses supplement the general office skills developed in the Clerical Certificate with a thorough knowledge of medical terminology, billing and coding.

A Certified Nursing Assistant course will be offered starting in February. Interviews for the program will be held Feb. 18 from 1 to 4 p.m., and Feb. 19 from 3 to 6 p.m.

LAE is offering a Welding Certificate program this semester. This program is comprised of two courses, Welding I and II, which may be taken simultaneously this winter.

All of these trades/certificate courses are offered weekday evenings beginning as early as Tuesday, Jan. 28. Registration is now open. For more information, visit www.lewistionadulted.org or call 795-4141.
