RUMFORD — Paper Moon Players in conjunction with 49 Franklin will present a special Valentine’s Day performance of “Love Letters” by A. R. Gurney.

The story centers around the romance of conservative Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and tempestuous Melissa Gardner. Both born to wealth and position, they are childhood friends who begin their relationship writing thank you notes for birthday parties and summer camp postcards. As Melissa and Andy age, their lives are continually and intimately connected through a series of love letters they exchange discussing their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments.

This unique piece of theater is comprised of letters exchanged over a lifetime by these two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences, passion and ultimately their love. As the actors read the letters aloud what is created is an evocative, touching and frequently funny but always telling pair of character studies making for a most engaging evening in the theater.

Paper Moon Players actress Kristen Leclerc Guay will portray the witty and sometimes acerbic Melissa. Joining her in his debut with the “players” is her husband Christopher Guay as the staid Andrew. “Love Letters” will be directed by Keith A. Grassette and produced by Cindy and Scot Grassette.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for cocktail social; 7 p.m. dinner is served; show follows. Advance reservations only. Tickets are $28 per person and can be purchased at All That Jazz and Bartash’s or at www.49franklin.com.
