BETHEL — The SAD 44 Finance Committee will begin working on the 2014-15 budget next week.

Administrators and cost-center leaders shared their proposed figures with Superintendent David Murphy and began discussions with him.

The Finance Committee will meet Jan. 23 to review the amount the district has spent at the half-year mark.

The 2013-14 budget is $10.2 million, Murphy said.

The committee will discuss state educational funding in February and review each of the cost centers in March and April. The centers include regular instruction, special education, vocational instruction, guidance, libraries, school administration, facilities and maintenance, transportation, capital debt and food services.

On April 21, the SAD 44 board will review the budget proposal and schedule a workshop, if necessary. It is scheduled to adopt the budget May 5.

Residents of the five-town district will act on the proposed budget at a meeting May 27 at Telstar Regional High School in Bethel. The figure approved will go to a referendum in each town June 10.

Residents will also vote May 27 and June 10 on the proposed adult and community education budget. This year’s figure is $152,250.

SAD 44 is comprised of Bethel, Andover, Newry, Greenwood and Woodstock, and serves about 800 students.
