AUGUSTA (AP) — A 6-month-old girl authorities say was left permanently blinded and brain damaged after allegedly being shaken by her father has been released after spending a month in the hospital.
The Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/1n0VyK8 ) reported that Aleah Peaslee was released from a Portland hospital earlier this week.
The girl’s father, 21-year-old Kevin Peaslee, was released on $50,000 bail on Wednesday. He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of aggravated assault and one count of assault. Although prosecutors said the baby has suffered permanent injuries, Peaslee’s lawyer has said that not all medical information is in yet.
As conditions of bail, Peaslee is barred from having contact with his daughter and the girl’s mother.
Police said Peaslee shook the baby on Dec. 21.
