SANFORD (AP) — A Sanford-based nonprofit that will stop providing rides for Maine Medicaid patients has let go more than 20 employees.
York County Community Action Corp. announced in December that it would stop working with the state contractor that arranges rides in the county effective Feb. 7 because it was losing money.
The agency cut 17 employees this week. Six were laid off in the past month.
The nonprofit provided about half the drivers used by LogistiCare, which has a $5.1 million state contract to arrange MaineCare recipients’ rides to non-emergency medical appointments in the region.
A LogistiCare official told the Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1eCCj4Q ) he doesn’t anticipate a disruption in service.
LogistiCare is one of three brokers that cover the state. The program has been beset with problems, including thousands of missed rides.
