RUMFORD — The Hope Association will host several fundraising events over the next couple of months, Executive Director Catherine Johnson said at a community networking meeting Thursday at the Rumford Public Library.

Johnson said a dance is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Hope Association building, featuring music from Fawn and Noel Palmer.

“Fawn and Noel play country music,” she said. “If you have children or know people who want to go someplace that’s smoke-free, you should check this out. The kids come to it and have a blast.”

Coalition members that the Hope Association will hold their 39th annual Snowmobile Ride-In on Sunday, Feb. 9.

“Snowmobilers will ride in, give our clients a ride and can go inside for a free lunch,” Johnson said. “Vito Gaccetta, the president of our board of directors, usually takes a big, thick, steel drum that he welded together and fills it up with sausages and green peppers.”

In April, the Hope Association will hold its third annual scrapbooking event.

“The first time we did this, we just threw it together in a month’s time,” Johnson told the coalition. “We’re a lot more organized this time. The last time we did it, we had people bringing their sewing machines and their ironing boards. One woman was doing beading.”

RVHCC member Sandy Witas asked, “You mean it’s not just a scrapbooking event? You can do other types of crafting?”

Johnson said they do. People can rent a table for the day.

“You get 15 hours of free space. You can come in the morning, go to your kids baseball or basketball game, and then come back. You don’t even have to worry about food, since we provide breakfast, lunch and supper,” she said.
