WEST GARDINER (AP) — Maine police are investigating what they say appears to be the accidental shooting of a fisherman by a hunter in West Gardiner.
Authorities said 54-year-old Scott Fraley of Raymond was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center with a “superficial” wound after being struck in the back of the head with a bullet just before noon Sunday. He was released later in the day.
The gun was fired by 21-year-old Bryan Hickey of West Gardiner.
Game wardens said Hickey was shooting at something, perhaps a squirrel in a tree, when the bullet travelled about 300 yards and struck Fraley.
Hickey is cooperating with the investigation and there was no word on charges. Game wardens confiscated a rifle from the scene.
