(Photo Caption) COCA-COLA PLANT ADDITION NEARS COMPLETION. Workmen of the Gerard Construction Company are erecting a new 100 x 50-foot addition to the present Coca-Cola Bottling Company plant on Park St., Lewiston. Plant Manager A.W. Hughes, vice president of six Maine plants, said today that the addition will be used mainly as a garage, but with some stock storage. Also underway is the remodeling of the older section of the plant, including new bottling facilities, Hughes said. The work is scheduled to be completed by March.

Many people think Lewiston and think Franco-American. However, a new library discussion series that focuses on the other ethnic groups that make up this city may encourage people to expand their thinking. “There’s a lot written about the French, but mighty little about anybody else,” said Geneva Kirk, secretary of the Lewiston Historical Commission. Kirk on Wednesday moderated the first of the three discussions, which centered on the Polish and Lithuanian communities in Lewiston. The other two talks will highlight the Irish, German, Italian and Greek experiences. All are sponsored by the Friends of the Library to provide information and build relationships in the community. Most of the group of about 20 who attended the first talk at the library said they were of Polish or Lithuanian extraction. The majority appeared to be senior citizens and many said their parents were the ones to come here from their Eastern European countries. The reason for their immigration was “to earn a living,” members of the group said simply.
