Exposure can be from a number of means ranging from a direct bite wound or significant scratch to direct exposure of a wound, mucus or saliva of a rabid animal. It is extremely important that both dogs and cats are vaccinated and receive follow-up boosters to reduce to potential of rabies transmission.
