Pancake breakfast at St. Philips

AUBURN — A pancake breakfast will take place from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at St. Philips Church, Route 4, across from Lake Auburn.

Breakfast includes sausage patties, fruit cup, coffee, milk and tea.

Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children 6 to 12 and free for ages 5 and under.

The meal is hosted by the church family groups.

Phlebotomy course starts Feb. 18

AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer Introduction to Phlebotomy from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays from Feb. 18 to April 8. The cost is $475 and includes materials and book. Registration deadline is Feb. 11.

A combination of lecture, lab and hands-on practical experience, this course will allow you to develop the skills needed to work in an entry level position in medical facilities as a phlebotomist.

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free integrative medicine workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “Treating Depression with Mind-Body Practice” will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

Integrative medicine is an increasingly popular approach to healing that takes the whole patient into account, not just their illness. Catherine Krouse, DO, will discuss how integrative medicine benefits cancer patients, its unique approach to healing and how it differs from conventional medicine.

Sweetie-Pie Ball at United Methodist

AUBURN — The United Methodist Church of Auburn will put on an All Ball for any child and the people who love them, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15.

Invited are mothers, sons, dads, daughters, grandparents and more. The event is geared for the young (ages 2-8) and the young at heart.

Cost of registration is $20 per couple and $5 for each additional child or adult. Decorations, refreshments, music, photographer, arts-n-crafts and a gift for each child are included.

Rabies, microchip clinic at GAHS

LEWISTON — The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society will host a rabies and microchip clinic from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 15, at 55 Strawberry Ave. The clinic will be rescheduled for Feb. 22 in case of bad weather. The clinic is open to the public for all dogs and cats over three months of age.

Rabies vaccinations, rabies tags, microchips and pet ID tags will all be available courtesy of grant funds received from the ASPCA, although donations will be accepted. For pets that have been vaccinated in the past, bring the old rabies certificate.

Maine law requires that all dogs and cats be vaccinated against rabies. Rabies is a viral disease of the central nervous system caused by exposure to the RNA virus. Exposure can be from a number of means ranging from a direct bite wound or significant scratch to direct exposure of a wound, mucus or saliva of a rabid animal. It is extremely important that both dogs and cats are vaccinated and receive follow-up boosters to reduce to potential of rabies transmission.

Bible Study 101 begins Feb. 16

AUBURN — Ever wanted to read the Bible but it seemed to be written in a different language? Ever wondered why there were so many different versions of this book?
