ANDOVER — The Snow Valley Sno-Goers in Andover will host its first wind tower ride at 9 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, in Roxbury, club member Paula Smith said.

The purpose is to raise money for club activities and maintenance of the clubhouse.

“We have a beautiful clubhouse here, surrounded by big fields, with a big wood stove inside,” Smith said. “We’ve done ATV rides in the summer with the Roxbury ATV Riders, but we’ve never done anything in the winter like this.”

The ride will start at the clubhouse off Route 5 in Andover, proceed along trails that parallel Route 120 to Roxbury. The 22 wind turbines are on a ridge that stretches from Partridge Peak and Flathead Mountain, both in Roxbury, north to Record Hill in Byron.

The ride will cost $10 for nonmembers and $8 for Sno-Goers. Children ages 10 and younger can ride for free. Lunch is included in the cost.

“We’re going to be cooking up hot dogs, big pots of chili and baking up some cakes,” Smith said. “We figured since there’ll be a good amount of kids going, we’d have hot dogs for lunch. Most kids seem to like hot dogs.”

Depending how the ride goes, Smith said the club may hold more of them.

“We’ve never done this before, so we’re going to wait and see how this one goes,” Smith said. “I will say that the trails are going to be nice and groomed. The only thing that would get in the way of us going would be a big snowstorm.”
