GRAY — Forward Alan Young drained nine from the field and five from the line for an impressive 23 points as Poland cruised to a 68-58 victory over Gray-New Gloucester in boys’ basketball action Friday.

Poland controlled the pace of the second half, outscoring the Patriots by eight. Tyler Michaud paced the Knights’ offensive attack with 13 points. Senior Josh Gary chipped in ten as well for Poland (10-8).

Andreas Kariotis led the scoring effort for the Patriots (3-15) with 15 points.

Spruce Mtn. 81, Carrabec 46

NORTH ANSON — Deonte Ring led an offensive assault with a game-high 36 points, as the Spruce Mountain offense catapulted the Phoenix to a 81-46 victory over Carrabec in MVC boys’ basketball action.

Ring knocked down 10-of-14 from the charity line and drained four from behind the arc for the Phoenix (16-2). Justin McKenna supplied good scoring support with ten points on the night for Spruce Mountain.

John Layman and Elliot Gorr netted 12 and 10 points respectively for the Cobras.

Mt. Abram 64, Mt. Valley 62, OT

RUMFORD — Mt. Abram’s offense prevailed in a close matchup that came down to the wire in extra time, as the Roadrunners edged the Falcons of Mountain Valley 64-62 in a boys’ MVC basketball contest Friday.

Tristan Dyer led a high-scoring Mt. Abram offense with 27 points.

Caleb Gauvin rounded out the scoring for the Falcons (2-16) with 17 points.

Mens’ basketball

Williams 92, Bates 70

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Senior Michael Mayer dropped in a game-high 25 points as No. 10 Williams College men’s basketball topped Bates College, 92-70, on Friday night.

For Bates, sophomore Mike Boornazian scored a team-high 18 points while junior Graham Safford of Hampden recorded 11 points and seven rebounds.

Lyndon State 75, UMF 59

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. — Lyndon State men’s basketball ran its North Atlantic Conference winning streak to five games Friday with a 74-59 triumph over the University of Maine at Farmington, Friday night at Stannard Gymnasium.

Womens’ basketball

UMF 67, Lyndon State 48

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. — University of Maine at Farmington sophomore Elizabeth Ferry led the way with 14 points and 13 rebounds as the Beavers trounced Lyndon State College, 67-48, in North Atlantic Conference women’s basketball on Friday night.

Ferry went 5-of-10 from the field with a 4-of-6 mark at the free-throw line. Sophomore Ayla Allen also contributed with 12 points in the win for the Beavers (8-13, 7-6).

Williams 84, Bates 45

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Junior Kellie Macdonald drained a team high 14 points as No. 15 Williams College defeated Bates College, 84-45, on Friday night.

For the Bobcats, senior Meredith Kelly scored a team-high 13 points to increase her career total to 1,144 points.
