1923 – 2014

RAYMOND — Wendell J. “Wink” MacDonald, 91, of Franklin Street in Rumford, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at his daughter Jane’s home in Raymond, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Rumford on Jan. 25, 1923, a son of William J. and Mary (Goodwin) MacDonald. Wendell attended St. Athanasius School and was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1941. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in France, Belgium and Holland.

Wendell was employed for more than 40 years with Oxford Paper Co., and retired in 1985 from the engineering department. He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, and a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

Wendell enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing the violin and  harmonica. He also enjoyed traveling, playing cribbage and spending time with his family in the home he built.

Surviving are his children, David W. MacDonald of South Portland, Dennis W. MacDonald and wife, Nancy, of Hooksett, N.H., Thomas B. MacDonald and wife, Elizabeth Fowler, of Portland, Peter J. MacDonald and wife, Ellen, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Nancy M. Johnson and husband, Dale, of Dover, N.H., William R. MacDonald and wife, Tammy, of Mexico and Jane M. Hoffman and husband, Jeff, of Raymond; a sister, Elizabeth “Jenny” Stoklas, of Mexico; a sister-in-law, Rita Thorne, of Rumford; and 10 grandchildren, Justin MacDonald, Kari MacDonald, Jennifer Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Luke Johnson, Beth MacDonald, Josh MacDonald, Ryan Hoffman, Sara Hoffman and Christopher Hoffman.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Theresa (Polero) MacDonald; a brother, Harold MacDonald; and a sister, Margaret Richards.
