AUBURN — The city is scheduled to kick off an effort to revitalize downtown with a presentation Thursday evening at the Auburn Public Library.

Alan Manoian, Auburn’s economic development specialist, will present a slide show tour of the area. The program is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 13.

Auburn is launching a summer program to get residents and visitors to think differently about the area, hopefully bringing in more business. It involves sidewalk cafes, summer studio displays, walking tours, discussions and zoning philosophy changes.

Manoian’s presentation will talk about how uninviting and unwalkable the downtown is now and how that can hurt the area’s economy. He’ll also discuss ways to turn that around.

The circa-1915 bells removed from New Auburn’s St. Louis Church last year will be on display at the library during the presentation. The city is launching a campaign to purchase the bells and keep them in Auburn.
