BRUNSWICK — Police have charged an 18-year-old Topsham man with shooting into a McLellan Street home in Brunswick late Sunday night.

Brenden Christopher Jasper was arrested at his apartment Monday afternoon and charged with reckless conduct, criminal attempt, criminal mischief and aggravated assault. He was released from the Brunswick police station Monday night on $10,000 unsecured bail, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan of the Brunswick Police Department said Tuesday.

Brunswick police responded at 10:01 p.m. Sunday to 37 McLellan St. for a report that a gun had been fired into the residence. A bullet went through a window in the exterior wall of the home, struck the television and continued into the next room.

A 20-year-old woman suffered minor injuries when the television exploded after being hit by the bullet.

Sunday’s shooting was allegedly in retaliation for an incident that occurred in Topsham Saturday night involving Jasper and a 21-year-old male occupant of the Brunswick apartment, according to Hagan. He declined to further discuss the case, citing an ongoing investigation into that incident.

Hagan said police recovered a shotgun at Jasper’s apartment. The gun did not belong to Jasper, according to Hagan. He was not sure whether the gun was loaded at the time police seized it.

Police believe Jasper fired the gun into the McLellan Street home from a vehicle. Another person was in the car at the time, Hagan said, and police have identified a suspect.

The investigation continues, and Hagan said further charges are possible.

Hagan praised the officers and detective who responded Sunday night to the scene of the shooting.

“It was due to the good work of the initial responding officers and follow-up by detectives that this case was solved so quickly,” Hagan said.

Jasper is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County Superior Court on April 22.
