RUMFORD — Swift River Family Medicine, 430 Franklin St., has been recognized for its efforts to help prevent childhood obesity and improve childhood nutrition and health.

The Rumford-based primary care practice has been designated a 5210 Let’s Go Site of Distinction by Let’s Go!, a nationally recognized childhood obesity prevention program.

Let’s Go Site of Distinction is awarded to organizations and programs that implement strategies for childhood obesity prevention. They include providing healthy choices for snacks, limiting unhealthy choices, providing water and low-fat milk, limiting sugary beverages, promoting physical activity every day and limiting recreational screen time.

The 5210 program name was created to help children remember that each day they should eat five or more fruits and vegetables, spend two hours or less of recreational time in front of a screen, spend one hour or more participating in physical activity, and drink less sugar and more water and low-fat milk.
