FARMINGTON — A Maryland man returned to Maine on Wednesday to face a felony charge of sexual abuse of a minor.

Michael Massey, 32, of Hyattsville, Md., appeared in court on the charge that stemmed from a camping trip in Weld in 2012. He was booked at the Franklin County Detention Center after his court appearance.

Massey flew to Maine to turn himself in, his attorney, Walter Hanstein, said.

According to court records, a group was camping in Weld on July 21, 2012, and alcohol was being consumed. The girl, who was 14 or 15 years old, awoke in the night to find Massey attempting a sex act with her, according to the record.

Bail was set at $1,000 cash by Justice Nancy Mills in Franklin County District Court. Conditions include no contact with the victim and no unsupervised contact with anyone under age 16, except for his newborn baby.
