RUMFORD — A utility pole beside East Andover Road was split down the middle by a FedEx delivery truck Tuesday night, fire Chief Robert Chase said Wednesday.

Chase said the driver, whose name was not available Wednesday evening, was traveling south and lost control of the truck while attempting to turn on to Andover Road.

“The truck sideswiped the pole hard enough to completely split the pole down the middle,” Chase said. “When we got to the scene, the pole was caught in the power lines, just hanging in the road.”

No one was injured, Chase said.

The Fire Department barricaded a section of East Andover Road while Central Maine Power replaced the pole.

“We left the scene around 7 p.m., and from what I understand, CMP was able to get a new pole up that night,” Chase said.
