The YWCA is now offering a new synchronized swim class for kids ages 8-12. This is a beginner level, non-team synchro. Participants will be working on the 20 basic positions of the sport. Think of this as gymnastics stunts: handstands, somersaults, walkovers, completed in and under the water. Must be able to swim at advanced polliwog level or higher. Nose clip, cap and goggles recommended. Class will run for eight weeks on Thursdays, Feb. 27 through April 16, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Water babies, Puddle Jumpers and Parent & Tot classes are available for children ages 6 month through 35 months. These are water adjustment classes. Parents accompany their child in the water. YWCA staff will help parents select the appropriate class and there are many time slots during the week.

Water Explorers is for children 2 to 6 years who are afraid of being in the water and helps them conquer this fear. Parents accompany their child in the water.

Aquatots, Guppies, Jellyfish, Polliwog and Tadpole classes are all designed to help children from ages 3 to 15 learn and develop the skills to become proficient swimmers. Again, classes are paced for the age and ability level of each child and YWCA staff will help parents decide on the most appropriate level for their child.

American Red Cross Water Safety classes for stroke development, stroke refinement and fitness are also offered to youth.

Adult lessons are offered for those 15 and older who have never had swimming lesson or are still working on beginner strokes.

Adult Swim Program for adults (18 and older) must be able to swim laps. This class will focus on breathing techniques, building endurance and learning new swim strokes. Each workout will vary to meet specific individual needs abilities, interest and goals. A great class for tri-athletes. The class will run from Feb. 24 to April 16, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 a.m.
